GTA 6 Characters May Be More Realistic

Is GTA 6 Being Tested

A new patent for Rockstar Games’ highly anticipated game points to an advanced technology that can increase the realism of GTA 6 characters.

The sixth game of Rockstar Games’ Grand Theft Auto series. GTA 6 characters and animations may break new ground. A new patent spotted by Reddit user Tobbelobben30 (via Eurogamer ) suggests that Rockstar Games may be using sharp technology to increase the realism of in-game characters.

GTA 6 Characters Come to Life with Rockstar’s Innovative Technology

Tobias Kleanthous, former chief AI and in-game programming lead at Rockstar Games, has filed a patent called “System and Method for Virtual Character Walking.” At issue is an 11-page document that was “architected and implemented for games” by the Red Dead Redemption and Grand Theft Auto studio, according to Kleanthous’ LinkedIn profile. It is expected to greatly improve the life-like movements of characters, with “a system and method for controlling the animation and movements of in-game objects” mentioned in the patent abstract.

In his Reddit post about the patent, Tobbelobben30 explains that the technology uses these basic components to organically integrate a character’s movements rather than creating separate animations for various scenarios, such as a character walking in the rain, being tired, or suffering an injury. This allows for more realistic and diverse animations in GTA VI. Characters will move in different ways depending on the weather, energy levels and injuries, making the game more immersive.

Character Animations Are Taken to a New Level in GTA VI

Although the term “immersive” is often used as a meaningless marketing cliché prior to video game releases, it couldn’t be more appropriate in the case of this patent. The specified technology promises to provide more dynamic animations to the characters in Rockstar Games’ games, especially in GTA VI, adding unparalleled realism to their environments. Although Tobbelobben30 said that the animations in Rockstar’s next game will be “spectacular”, he could not confirm whether this system was used in Red Dead Redemption 2. Kleanthous mentioned some similar technologies used in the cowboy role-playing game at the 2021 GDC.

Commenting on this new walking patent, Reddit users stated that the animations and physics of the upcoming game will be incredible and that the improved animation systems will make the gaming experience even more impressive. Although there is still no definitive release date, many details have been learned about GTA VI in recent months and years. Many details, such as the city where the game will take place and the characters we will play, were leaked to the public when an 18-year-old hacker accessed Rockstar Games using an Amazon Fire Stick from a hotel room.
