GTA 6 is highly anticipated, but still doesn’t have a fixed release date. This is particularly exciting among the competition and shows that Rockstar is already influencing the coming gaming year.
What about GTA 6? It’s been a year since the first trailer for GTA 6 was released. Back then, the first moving images caused a huge stir – of course, we’re talking about GTA here. The series is after all very popular and has earned Rockstar Games a very good reputation.
Since then there has been hardly any new information about the sixth part. Even Rockstar doesn’t want to or can’t reveal exactly when it will appear. So far only the rough period of autumn 2025 is available. It is not yet clear whether it will be adhered to. In any case, a former employee believes that Rockstar could delay the exact date for a long time.
This also has consequences for other publishers. Because hardly anyone wants to mess with the giant GTA.

How is the competition doing? It’s no secret that GTA 6 will dominate the gaming world when it comes out. After all, part 5 was already enormously successful. Not only is it considered one of the best games of all time with a metascore of 97 points, according to statista.com it has sold around 205 million times.
To put that in perspective: Only Minecraft sold more units, namely 300 million units (via statista.com). A large, long-standing series like Final Fantasy and all of its spin-offs have even sold fewer games than Rockstar did with GTA 5 alone. Namely 195 million units (via statista.com)
These numbers ensure high expectations. On the one hand, at Rockstar, from which a very good game and high sales are expected. On the other hand, there are competing publishers who are afraid of releasing their game in the same period.
For this reason, some game companies are currently delaying the release date of their own productions. According to industry insider Jason Schreier, they want to wait until Rockstar comes out with a concrete date.
If autumn 2025 is confirmed, other titles could be postponed – even into 2026. What exactly the next year in gaming will look like is still up in the air.
This shows how big the influence of GTA 6 is even before its release.
