GTA 5 how to transfer your solo and online save

GTA 5 comes out a second time on next-gen! After crossing the ages, the essential arrives on the latest generation of consoles, offering players the opportunity to transfer their old save and their character online. We will explain everything to you.

[Mise à jour le 15 mars 2022 à 11h25] Remember, it was in 2013, the Playstation 3 was living its last moments of glory and the Xbox 360 marked the end of its success story which brought it to the level of its competitor from Sony. GTA 5 was then released, snatching all records and prizes, quickly becoming one of the best-selling games of all time, behind the Minecraft phenomenon. Nine years and 160 million sales later, Roxkstar’s star title is given new life with two new versions dedicated to next-gen consoles, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. A port that results in a new purchase and a backup transfer for those who wish. We explain how to do it.

If you’ve spent long hours on the streets of Los Santos on your PS4 or Xbox One, and want to buy one of the next-gen versions of GTA 5, know that you have the opportunity to transfer your character from one console generation to another. These transfers concern both story mode and online mode, and are unique. It will therefore be possible to transfer a single-player save and an Online mode save to your next-gen console. Please note that these transfers are only possible between consoles from the same manufacturer, PS4 to PS5 and Xbox One to Xbox Series. Here is the transfer method as described by Rockstar:

Story :

Upload your save from your old console to the Rockstar Social Club: go to your game on your PS4 or Xbox One, then to the Game tab in the pause menu. There you will find the option “Download game save”. Your save will then be uploaded to your Rockstar Social Club account, and will remain there for 90 days. When you log into your account from your new console (PS5 or Xbox Series), you can then recover your save.

In line :

No special handling needed for GTA Online, just log into your Rockstar Games Social Club profile on your new console and enjoy your character as you left it on your old-gen console.

What are the next-gen versions of GTA 5 and GTA Online?

We told you in the introduction, the period that the world of console video games is going through is quite complex, stuck between an older generation of consoles and a new generation that is difficult to find in stores. As a result, the transition between “old-gen” and “next-gen” is taking longer than expected, hence the proliferation of “cross-gen” game releases, available on both PS4 and PS5 for example. . Only here, the Xbox Series X and the PS5 offer performance much higher than that of their elders, benefiting in particular from technologies such as Ray-Tracing and SSD storage. It is therefore quite normal for popular titles like GTA 5 to be brought to the new generation of consoles.

For the consumer, this portage generally translates into two ways. First, a free upgrade to the next-gen version for all players who own the game on the older console generation. Second, the release of games entirely different from the old titles, incorporating the new technical features of the new consoles and sold separately. And when it comes to GTA 5, Rockstar is leaning towards the second option. To take advantage of these new versions of the game, offering 4K textures, Ray-Tracing and 60 fps, you will therefore have to buy the game again in its Xbox Series X | S or PS5 version. A new hard to swallow for some of the players.

GTA Online free on PS5 for three months

This is one of the good news surrounding the release of GTA 5 on next-gen consoles: the online mode is available separately from the full game on the PS5 and Xbox Series stores, at a reduced price. Count €19.99 for the online mode against €39.99 for the full game (story + online mode). Additionally, PS5 players can enjoy three months of completely free to download GTA Online, allowing them to fully experience the ever-changing world of Los Santos in multiplayer. At the end of these three months, players will be able to keep their Online version at no additional cost.

As far as Xbox Series X players are concerned, the situation is more complex. If they want to access the Online mode, they have to settle for buying the new next-gen version of GTA V at €39.99 which will give them de facto access to the online mode, or else they have to buy the mode online separately on the Xbox Store, much like Red Dead Redemption 2’s online mode. promotions offered by Take Two Interactive to celebrate this next-gen launch.

Price and pre-order
