Grows Field of Sunflowers to help support Alzheimers Society

For the Fifth Year, Puddleford Tree Farm Has Planted Thousands of Sunflowers for the public to Enjoy and Pick As A Fundraiser for Chatham-Kent Alzheimer’s Society.

Gail Whitney, Who Runs The Kent Bridge-Area Farm With Her Husband Matthew, Said 100 Per Cent of the Funds Go To The Alzheimer Society’s Day Program, Which Offers Days Away for Customers and Respite for Caregivers.

Admission is $ 5 a vehicle to enter and sunflowers can be and taken home for $ 1 each.

Whitney Said the Sunflowers have generated more than $ 11,000 for the day program since it began.

There is a grass pathway between the rows of sunflowers making it easy for people to pose for photographs.

The Fundraiser Began Wednesday and Whitney Said Not All The Sunflowers Are Open, Which is Unusual.

“This year they doing a funny thing, they are open in internships and we don now why,” She Said. “Maybe that means they’ll last along.”

The Fundraiser is also a way for people to avoid stopping at large fields of sunflowers grown for commercial use.

“That’s the idea,” Whitney Said. “People Love Sunflowers, but if you walk into a farmer’s field, you cream damage the plants, which makes it difficult to harvest.”

At Puddleford Farms, She Said People Can Come and Pick What They Want and “Take pictures and Enjoy Yourself.”

Whitney noted the seed for the sunflower is donated by the local pioneer dealer.

Sale the Field is plant to be a fundraiser, Whitney Said Professional Photographers who Want to Use the Field of Sunflowers as a Rental Are Asked to Pay $ 35 year Hour.

All fees are cash or etransfer to [email protected].

The Farm is Located at 22896 SCANE ROAD.
