The American multimillionaire Elon Musk, a close advisor to Donald Trump, presented the third version of the Grok 3 software on Monday, February 17 of the XAI company, which he owns. Its objective: to compete with the American Chatgpt and the Chinese Deepseek.
This launch comes at a time when Elon Musk, also boss of Tesla, SpaceX and owner of the social network X, is propelled by the republican president at the head of a vast site of frank cuts in the expenses of the federal state, which worried democrats and unions in particular. Its function at the head of the DOGE, the commission responsible for government “efficiency”, raises questions about the risks of conflicts of interest, the richest man in the world with very large public contracts.
“The most intelligent AI on earth”?
“Grok is to understand the universe,” said the American billionaire during the presentation of the latest version of Grok 3. “We are guided by the search for the nature of the universe. This is also what Pushes us to be an AI that seeks the truth as much as possible, even if this truth is sometimes in disagreement with what is politically correct, “he said.
Grok 3 will first be provided for free X Premium +subscribers, before being made available to other audiences.
By announcing the release of Grok 3 on Sunday, Elon Musk proclaimed herself to present “the most intelligent AI on earth”. “We think it will be better than everything,” he also said last week during a video intervention during a conference in Dubai. “It may be the last period when an AI is better than Grok,” he added.
“Advanced infrastructure”
The XAI company led in December a new major fundraising of $ 6 billion. These funding must be used in particular for the strengthening of “advanced infrastructure”, at the time indicated this company which developed generative artificial intelligence products and aims to be a competitor of OPENAI, at the origin of the Chatgpt software launched in 2022.
On Friday, the OPENAI board of directors announced the unanimous rejection of Elon Musk’s buyout offer for $ 97.4 billion. Elon Musk and the director general of Sam Altman were part of the team of 11 people who founded Openai in 2015, the first having provided initial funding of $ 45 million.
The sector was destabilized by the release in January of Deepseek, a generative AI created by a Chinese start-up capable of equaling its American competitors at a very lower cost.
Launched in July 2023, XAI had already raised $ 6 billion in May 2024 and its valuation is currently around 50 billion dollars, according to the American media CNBC. Microsoft (main Openai investor), Google, Amazon, Meta and others have spent billions of dollars and launched tools that easily produce stunning texts, images and videos and also make conversation orally.
