Van Hooijdonk has been an alderman in Utrecht since 2014 with the mobility, energy and green portfolios. She made the city much more car-free. It brought her supporters, but also caused her to be at loggerheads with various residents’ groups who felt that the alderman did not listen carefully to their objections.
