Grocery store in Växjö is Sweden’s best workplace – according to the trade union Handels

Every year before the Christmas shopping holiday, the trade union selects Sweden’s best workplace, based on members’ nominations.

Among the previous winners are the catering company Martin och Servera in Västberga and an Ica store in Skellefteå.

Criteria that are weighed are a good working environment and the opportunity for the staff to influence their work situation. This year the title goes to Coop Norremark in Växjö.

– The most important thing is that the store manager listens to the staff and that you can decide on your working day. We can do that here, I don’t have to sit eight hours at the till, says Aida Bermani, local club president for Handels.

“Should be able to live on his salary”

Among other things, the employees have been able to negotiate the hours for those who work in the store, something that is part of the union’s nomination:

– You should be able to live on your salary when you work in trade. Here we have a club that has really shown how, through union cooperation, more hours can be added to the contract so that more people can do just that, says Linda Palmetzhofer, union president for Handels in a press release.
