On Wednesday, it has been exactly two years since the highest court in Norway ruled that the country’s largest wind farm is a violation of international law as it is located in the middle of the reindeer grazing area on Fosen.
Just like in February, when 500 days had passed since the verdict, NSR Nuorat is now planning large demonstrations in Oslo.
“We’ll do it again”
In February and March, the protesters blocked the doors of several ministries in Oslo’s government quarter. Ministry staff were asked to work from home as they could not get into the buildings.
This time, NSR Nuorat has already warned in advance that they are planning civil disobedience in some form.
– The colonization of Sápmi must stop. Earlier this year, Sami youth shut down the Norwegian state. On October 11, we will do it again. See you there, says Greta Thunberg in a video on NSR Nuorat’s Instagram account.
Carried away by the police
Greta Thunberg also participated in the demonstrations in February. Then she was one of all the young people who were taken away by the police while they blocked the doors of the ministry buildings.
After the demonstrations in February and March, the Norwegian government went out on its own for the first time and called the wind farm a violation of international law. But despite that, it is still in use. The government hopes to find a solution through dialogue that will ensure that the wind turbines in the affected areas remain.
