Greece’s press freedom worse than in Qatar

Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis is accused of wanting to control all information and has placed the Greek security police, as well as the public service and Greece’s equivalent of the TT news agency directly under the prime minister’s office.

That Greece falls in the press freedom index is also due to the wiretapping scandal that was revealed two years ago. Both politicians and journalists have been wiretapped, including the journalist Thanasis Koukatis whom SVT met.
