Greece: Soaring prices pile up on an already badly-stressed economy

In Greece, in 2022, annual inflation averaged 9.3%, according to Eurostat data. An average propelled in particular by soaring energy prices. Between 2021 and 2022, the average cost of electricity there has thus increased by 141%, according to the Energy Institute of South-Eastern Europe. This surge in prices is hitting a country, Greece, already hard hit by a decade of economic crisis, associated with an austerity policy that has melted wages, and pensions, reduced more than ten times.
