Smartphone shipments in China fell to their lowest in more than a decade in the first quarter of this year, and the results for some brands are now in full display. Chinese home appliance giant Gree has announced that it will withdraw completely from the smartphone market.
Gree’s last smartphone was launched in 2021 with the Tosot G7, a rebuilt Meizu 18X. The Gree smartphone division was founded in 2015 with bold plans to become one of the leading players in the Chinese market. Outspoken Gree president Dong Mingzhu had made big claims, claiming that the company’s smartphones were “as good as Apple iPhones” and that Gree would “easily beat Xiaomi” in the smartphone market.
Although the allegations are huge, it would not be wrong to say that they could not do anything as a result. There is no doubt that his next plans will be to concentrate on household appliances.
Although the number of smartphone users is increasing, some brands cannot keep up with this growing order. As giants like Apple and Samsung are on the scene, new brands need to make a very ambitious entry.
