If you want to start playing Baldur’s Gate 3 again, you should keep these tips and tricks in mind. They are particularly useful for the tough “Honour Mode”.
Baldur’s Gate 3 is not only a pretty good game, but also quite complex. There are many details and subtleties that players might miss on their first run – and even a few things that even professionals don’t even realize after the 5th round.
YouTuber Toyhouze created a video in which he presents “New Secrets I Learned After 800 Hours of Baldur’s Gate 3.” Some of them are quite useful, others reach into the realm of bugusing or exploiting.

Elixirs for servants
In Baldur’s Gate you can temporarily strengthen your characters with elixirs – but did you know that this also works for companions who are temporarily in your party? This also applies to summoned, high-level elementals, such as the Water Elemental, which one of your spellcasters will probably be able to summon in Act 3. Select the elemental, open the inventory and select the corresponding elixir to give to the elemental.
This is particularly useful because it can double the elemental’s Strength modifier. This not only increases the damage dealt, but also makes it harder for enemies to resist the elemental’s attacks.
So if you have a particularly challenging fight, give your summoned minions a drink or two from the bottle – it might be worth it.
Ambush with new damage type
If you have Astarion in the party or are playing a rogue yourself, Sneak Attack is a big source of your damage. The attack with advantage deals drastically increased damage, but has one disadvantage: it is always piercing damage.
Piercing damage is generally a good thing, but there are also enemies that have resistance to it or would be more susceptible to other types of damage – such as impact damage.
Weapons that are compatible with Sneak Attack and have a different type of damage are practically non-existent – with one exception, the practice swords. You can get the supposedly useless weapons from the Druid Grove, quite early in the game. Here the Tieflings train on training dummies and several training swords are just lying around. Just keep in mind that you have to steal the weapons to get them – so be smart or create a distraction.
These training weapons deal bludgeoning damage and can be used in conjunction with the Ambush.
Infinite spell slots as a magician
If you have a lot of magic-users in your group, you have to take regular breaks in order to be able to access all of your abilities. But sometimes that isn’t all that pleasant because time in the game progresses and one or two quests may no longer be solvable. But especially for magicians, there is a way in which you can have infinite spell slots – and without any limits.
To do this you need the “Shield of Devotion”, which you can buy in Act 2 in the “Last Light Inn” (the “hub” of the zone). The passive effect of this shield is that you gain an additional level 1 spell slot when wearing the shield.
The highlight of the matter: If you have already used all the spell slots, the shield gives you a new level 1 slot.
As a magician, you can use this spell slot to create spell points. Then you remove the shield and equip it again – and repeat the process until you have enough spell points to restore all of your spell slots.
The perfect way to always have enough magic at your disposal.
