Great concern that the conflict in Israel is spreading

During Sunday, shelling across the border continued and the Israeli military (IDF) stated that it responded to shelling from the Iran-backed Shia militia Hezbollah in Lebanon. The IDF has also cordoned off parts of the area close to the border.

The UN peacekeeping mission in Lebanon, Unifil, says its headquarters have been hit by shelling, but it is unclear where the shelling came from. No one was injured in the shelling, but Unifil writes: “We remind all parties involved that attacks against civilians and UN personnel are violations of international law.”

Hezbollah has said it will step up its hostilities if Israel enters Gaza in a major ground offensive, while Israel’s Defense Minister Yoav Gallant says the country has “no interest in a war in the north”.

– If Hezbollah chooses war, they will pay a very high price. But if they can control themselves, we will respect the situation and let things be as they are, even though they are at a stage where they are shelling us, he says.

During Sunday, at least one person was killed in the shelling, in total for the last week the death toll is at least eleven people, most of whom are supposed to be members of Hezbollah. The figure also includes the photographer from the Reuters news agency who was killed in an Israeli attack on southern Lebanon on Friday.
