Great Britain, inflation and producer prices below expectations in September

UK Starmer anticipates painful manoeuvre and blames predecessor

(Finance) – UK inflation for September 2024 is slightly lower than expected. According to the Office for National Statistics (ONS) monthly report, the consumer prices do not record appreciable changes on a monthly basis, against the +0.1% of the consensus and after the +0.3% of the previous month. On an annual basisinflation growth has stabilized at 1.7%, below the expected 1.9%. and compared to 2.2% in the previous month.

The given core Inflation, which excludes the most volatile components such as food and fuel, recorded an increase of 0.1% on a monthly basis, against the +0.3% of the consensus, after +0.4% in August. The trend change remains stable at 3.2% and is lower than the expected 3.4%. and 3.6% in August.

Producer prices (output) are also below expectationswhich recorded a negative variation of -0.5% on a monthly basisafter the -0.3% of the previous month and estimated by analysts. At an annual levelthere was a change equal to -0.7%, against +0.3% in the previous month e compared to the expected -0.6%..

The core index, net of food, drinks, tobacco and oil, showed no change on the month, while it rose by 1.4% on an annual basis (+1.3% previously).
