The MMORPG genre is booming

This happened with the big MMORPGs:

  • The Mists of Pandaria remix event is coming to WoW: Dragonflight – more information about this on the official website.
  • Blizzard has published the release date for the fourth season of WoW: Dragonflight as well as the official patch notes. It starts on April 24, 2024!
  • The Cataclysm Classic prep patch goes live on May 1st. The new Classic expansion will be released on May 21, 2024 – here is the announcement from Blizzard.
  • Blizzard and Netease have come to an agreement, WoW is coming back to China!
  • If you want, you can now experience World of Warcraft in VR.
  • According to Blizzard producer Holly Longdale, it’s not impossible that WoW could come to Xbox at some point.
  • Square Enix has released a benchmark tool for Final Fantasy XIV: Dawntrail so you can check whether your PC meets the minimum requirements. As part of the benchmark, the developers also show the graphics updates for the MMORPG. However, some improvements caused dissatisfaction in the community.
  • For the FFXIV expansion Dawntrail, Square Enix announced some community features that producer Naoki Yoshida hopes you will never use.
  • The April update has been released for Lost Ark, with new raids and a complex equipment system for the end game.
  • A new update was released for New World on April 17, 2024 to trigger the Springtide Bloom event (via the official website). Make will-o’-the-wisp spritz, lure will-o’-the-wisp wasps into the appropriate explosion radius, and receive will-o’-the-wisp slime in exchange for spring tokens.
  • There was also an update for Black Desert on April 17, 2024. The new Ancient Anvil offers a kind of bad-luck protection for equipment upgrades. You can find out more about the feature in the official patch notes.
