With renovations Underway at Elgin avenue Public School and plans to Bring Together Two School Communities Next Year in the Expanded Learning Space, the Grand Erie District School Board is look for the public’s input into a new name to reflect its evolution.

“This is a new school community, and it deserves a name that marks this fresh start,” Said Susan Gibson, flesh of the board, in a release. “We are asking studies, families and residents to put their best ideas forward for a name that honors who we are and embrace a bright future.
The Renovations Will Transform the School, Located at 80 Elgin Ave. In Simcoe, into a hub with an additional 17,000 square feet and upgrades to the existing footprint. The work is on track to open in March 2026, Bringing Together Students from West Lynn Public School and Elgin avenue School.
“Engaging the community in this conversation isn’t just about choosing a new name, it’s about ensuring our collective values and aspirations are reflected,” Said Joanna Roberto, Director of Education. “Together, through this new name, we can create a legacy that catches our shared commitment to education, inclusifying and achievement.

Grand Erie’s Policy Governing School Naming Offers Considerations that may help inspire suggestions, include local geography, nature, historical names or events, or an individual with an outstanding and hardening contribution to the public education community. Names Should also Reflect Grand Erie’s Mission to Build A Culture of Learning, Well-Being and Belinging.
Public input will be received a May 24. A Committee will review the submissions with input from Staff, Students, Community Members and Stakeholder Groups. Finallly, the commtite will bring the top recommendation to the board of trustees later in the spring for the formal selection.
