GRAMMY AWARDS. The Recording Academy, which organizes the Grammy Awards, had announced the postponement of the American ceremony due to the Omicron wave.
[Mis à jour le 19 janvier 2022 à 11h47] New city, new date: the Omicron variant disrupts the traditional Grammy Awards, which were to be held at the end of January in Los Angeles. This Tuesday, January 18, the Recording Academy, which organizes the event every year, announces that the ceremony will finally be held on April 3 in Las Vegas. Due to the “uncertainties surrounding the Omicron variant,” Grammy Awards organizers explained in a press release that “holding the show on January 31 is simply too risky.”
A major change for the organization of the high mass of American music, which had to endure several controversies for the second consecutive year. The latest being around the appointment of the controversial Louis CK (who admitted to having sexually harassed women), Dave Chappelle (accused of transphobia) and Marilyn Manson (accused, among other things, of rape). “We don’t look at people’s history, we don’t look at their criminal records,” Grammy Awards director Harvey Mason Jr. argued on the site. The Wrap, adding a little oil to the fire.
The 2022 Grammy Awards put the youth in the spotlight. And it is the jazzman and pianist Jon Batiste who, with his nomination in eleven categories, wins the prize for representation in this prestigious list. Behind him, with eight nominations each, the Canadian star justin bieber, American rapper Doja Cat and American singer HER. Then come the young artists Billie Eilish (19) and Olivia Rodrigo (18) with seven nominations. It’s been a tradition for more than sixty years: the Grammy Awards take place at the beginning of the year. For this 64th ceremony, the Recording Academy finally had to postpone the event, initially scheduled for Los Angeles on January 31, 2022 to April 3, 2022 in Las Vegas.
Every year, the ceremony is broadcast live in the United States, on the American television channel CBS, as well as on the site of the event and the live performances of the artists directly posted online on Apple Music. In France, the ceremony will be followed on the Cstar channel, which should offer, as every year, a replay of the Grammy Awards the next day, Monday April 4, 2022 from 9 p.m.
