US President Joe Biden – under pressure after his criticized debate performance against Donald Trump last week – may soon reconsider his decision to run in the fall presidential election, according to a Democratic governor.

– I think the president will stay in the race as long as he does not feel that it is not possible to win, or if he feels that he has to listen to voices in his inner circle not to run, says Josh Green, Democrat and governor of Hawaii.

– We will probably know within the next few days how the president feels about all this, says the governor.

He points out that it will soon become clear how the pressure will fall on Biden, when members of Congress return to work next week after the National Day celebration.

In recent days, in various appearances, Biden has hammered home the message that he does not intend to step aside and underlined that he certainly has the power to beat Trump in the election.

But the pressure on Biden has continued after the disastrous debate effort. Five Democratic members of the House of Representatives have publicly called for Biden to step aside.

US media reports have claimed that a group of senators have also tried to rally to ask Biden to drop his candidacy.

Should Biden decide to step aside, he is likely to name Kamala Harris as the party’s presidential nominee, according to Josh Green.

Correction: In an earlier version there was an incorrect title for Green.
