Punishable with sales

The Law Council’s remit also proposes that it be punishable to sell nitrous oxide to persons under 18 years.

– It is extremely important that we get a stop to this completely unregulated, almost explosive, the situation we have, where young people, around the clock, can get large deliveries of nitrous oxide at the price of very large health risks, says Minister of Social Affairs Jakob Forssmed (KD) to the radio.

Six months in prison

Anyone who violates the provisions must be sentenced to a fine or imprisonment for a maximum of six months.

– It will only be possible to buy nitrous oxide if you are over 18, in very small quantities to use for cooking purposes, says Forssmed.

There is a broad political consensus that measures are needed to access the abuse of nitrous oxide. The Law Council’s remit is expected to be clubbed on Thursday.
