Government of Greenland Ready to cooperate with the United States

Greenland is open to expanding cooperation with the United States on the path to independence, says a government representative.

Greenlanders alone must be allowed to decide on their future, but the door to international cooperation with the United States is also open.

This is what the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Independence says in the name of Naalakkersuisut of the self-governing government of Greenland Vivian Motzfeldt. The bulletin has been published by the Government of Greenland on the website and it is also reported by Danish public radio DR.

– The fight for independence is our own business, says Motzfeldt.

Greenland’s government reacts to the future president of the United States Donald Trump’s to the statements that attracted attention, according to which the United States could take over Greenland even without disregarding military or economic means of pressure.

Motzfeldt says that Greenland is looking forward to the opportunity to cooperate with the United States, especially in relation to industry and natural resources.

The minister reminds that Greenland has a long history of cooperation with the United States.

– Greenland has done defense cooperation with the United States for more than 80 years for its own security, the security of the United States and the entire Western world. The government is looking forward to establishing a relationship with Donald Trump and his administration, the minister says in the press release.

The government of Greenland also says that it is aware that the security environment in the Arctic region is changing, and with that, Greenland’s role in US security considerations is also increasing.
