Locked schools, emergency plans and the opportunity to search through high school and high school students’ bags. There were some of the new security requirements in the School Act that the government proposed in mid -February, following the mass shooting at the Risbergska school in Örebro. The background was the school safety investigation, which was presented last year.
Now the government and the Swedish Democrats announce that they want to go even further than the investigation’s proposal.
In a remit, it is proposed that a completely new security chapter be included in the school law. There will be demands that all preschools and schools must have a contingency plan and ongoing emergency preparedness work to handle serious violence situations, through planning, education and exercise on, for example, accommodation. The right to search for bags is also proposed to include the entire elementary school and also Komvux.
Another proposal is that principals should be obliged to report a police report if it may be suspected that a student has committed a crime in connection with the school activities.
“All crimes that are not trivial must, as a general rule, be reported to the police,” says Patrick Reslow, school political spokesperson for SD, at a press conference.
It is also the principals that should be given the opportunity to decide that “bags or other objects” that students have with them are examined, according to the Law Council’s remit if it is justified to limit the risk of disruptions, violations or crimes.
The goal is for a bill to be completed this summer and for the changes to come into force on July 1 this year.
In addition, a new state grant of SEK 300 million is proposed in the spring change budget in 2025, which can be used for security -enhancing measures and physical protection in schools, such as locking systems or cameras.
– You have to apply, it is just like other state grants. The requirements will be that it is a proper application and well -thought -out proposals, says Education Minister Johan Pehrson (L).
