Gotland is getting ready for the snow – with snowplows and tracked vehicles

Leksand extended the winning streak beat AIK

SMHI has issued an orange warning for heavy snowfall over Gotland – and the island is now making serious preparations.

30 to 40 centimeters of snow is expected to fall when a new low pressure moves in from the Baltics and, in addition to the snow, gusts of 20-23 meters per second are expected.

– There are strong gusts of wind and it is snowing quite heavily here. Gotland has steeled itself this past week in the face of this storm, says Kristin Stein, TV4 Nyheternas reporter on site in Slite on Gotland.

All school buses on Gotland will be canceled on Tuesday, but despite that all schools will be open as usual.

After a meeting in which Region Gotland, the Armed Forces, GEAB and the Police Authority participated, the decision was also made to cancel boat trips and flight departures.

– We have a lot of snow plows on standby. We also have an extra team that is ready to step in when the first team has had enough work. We have reinforced with an extra tracked vehicle on the eastern side of the island and have a dialogue with home care and home health care, says Rikard von Zweigbergk, head of preparedness at Region Gotland.

Airport Visby’s airport manager Gunnar Jonasson confirms the canceled flights and says that the airline Bra follows the forecast and plans accordingly. There are currently no plans to cancel flights on Tuesday.
