Gothenburg’s schools face a hiring freeze

All primary schools in Gothenburg facing a hiring freeze, report Gothenburg Post.
It will be a disaster, says Andrea Meiling, chairman of Sweden’s Teachers in Gothenburg to the newspaper.

The stop applies to all permanent employment and temporary work of more than ten days.

For some time now, Gothenburg’s schools have been implementing a large savings package to shrink the deficit. But according to Göteborgs-Posten, the deficit has instead grown from 50 million to 60 million.

Now the education managers in Gothenburg’s primary school administration have decided to introduce a hiring freeze in all primary schools.

The union: “Will be a disaster”

The stop applies to external recruitment of permanent employment and temporary employment of more than ten days, writes Göteborgs-Posten.

The chairman of Sweden’s Teachers in Gothenburg is critical and concerned about the consequences of the decision.

– It will greatly affect our members’ working environment. When you are not allowed to hire, it will be a disaster. Even more disaster, we should say, says Andrea Meiling.

Now the union has decided to report the administration for collusion to the Labor Court.
