During the night of Tuesday, several Gothenburg citizens were woken up by the phone ringing. The caller was the city of Gothenburg, which sent an automated message with a request to save water this weekend.
– It’s horrible, says Robert Velén, who was woken up at 01:00 by the phone ringing, to Gothenburg Post.
During the weekend, major work will be carried out on one of the largest main lines that supplies the city of Gothenburg with water. In order for the work to go painlessly, the citizens of Gothenburg need help in saving water while the work is in progress.
– There will be water, but you should try to economize a little extra. You can think about, for example, watering your flowers or filling up the pool before the weekend, says Roger Andersson, head of unit at Cycle and water operation.
But it was not the idea that several Gothenburg citizens would be woken up in the middle of the night by the call to save water. Robert Velén, who GP has spoken to, was woken up by the phone ringing at 01:18 and was afraid that something had happened to his mother, who lives in a nursing home.
– It took a while to fall asleep again, because I was quite upset, he says.
During the day, several people contacted the city of Gothenburg and were annoyed that they were woken up by the calls.
– We have received reactions to it, with every right. The idea was that the message would expire at 4 pm yesterday, but then some unknown technical error has occurred. We can only regret that it turned out that way, says Roger Andersson.
