On Sunday evening, the Swedish Transport Administration announced that the E45 is closed at the height of Tösslanda, between Lilla Edet and Trollhättan.
– There has been a huge accumulation of water, and it has caused the road to travel on itself, we have found, says Lydia Bradaric at the Greater Gothenburg Rescue Service to TT.
– It is currently unclear what damage there is on the road, but we are on site and blocking off, says Niclas Fogelqvist, emergency management officer at the rescue service to TV4 Nyheterna.
– We are currently in the process of removing people and cars, says Lydia Bradaric.
Bradaric states that there are at least 30 cars that are stuck.
The road will only be opened on Tuesday, according to a preliminary forecast from the Swedish Transport Administration.
It is unclear if there are any injuries. According to the emergency services, an ambulance was not called to the scene.
Water up to the windows
The witness Johanna says that she has been stuck for about two hours.
– We ended up right at the viaduct and saw all the water, and saw how the emergency services came from both directions. And then we realized it was over, she says P4 Gothenburg.
– I watched the news that the football match in Borås was moved forward, so we knew it was raining but not this heavily because here it was a stoppage, says the witness Micke to the same channel.
– When we arrived, there was a Norwegian car with water up to the windows.
Properties flooded
Road 2009, which is a few kilometers away from the E45, is also impassable, the Swedish Transport Administration writes on its website. The reason is previous landslides.
The large amounts of rain have also led to several properties being affected, and the rescue service has received around 20 alarms about flooding from various homes and addresses in Lilla Edet, reports several media.
“There has been a lot of rain in a short time which has caused water damage in several properties locally in Lilla Edet. Right now work is underway to take stock of the situation and to start pumping out water with pumps and vacuuming with water vacuum cleaners,” writes the greater Gothenburg rescue service in a press release.
