A piece of metal that fell through the roof of a Florida home was a piece of space junk from the International Space Station (ISS).

This is confirmed by the US space agency Nasa, after analyzing the object that crashed through the roof and tore up the floor of a house in Naples on March 8.

The piece of metal had been used to mount old batteries on a cargo pallet that was then released from the space station in 2021. The debris was expected to burn up in Earth’s atmosphere, but the 700-gram piece of metal appears to have remained.

The homeowner says he couldn’t believe his eyes when he got home.

– What are the chances of something landing on my house with such force that it causes so much damage? he asks himself according to local media.

– I am very grateful that no one was hurt.
