Before Monday’s Open track, Gösta was one of three who had raced the Vasaloppet 60 times.
He tried to ride his 61st race last year but was then forced to break at the control in Oxberg.
But he tried again and as one of the last, he crossed the finish line in Mora just after eight o’clock on Monday evening after 13 hours 3 minutes and 23 seconds on the Vasalopp track.
Now he is the only one to have raced the Vasaloppet 61 times.
– I have broken the poles three times, received a massage four times and probably fell 20 times. But it’s nice to now be the toughest in Sweden’s toughest club, the Vasalopp veterans, says a bruised and bloodied Gösta Lönnelid, who turns 86 in May.
