Every year Google releases a new update to Android. Most recently, it was Android 15, which was rolled out to Pixel phones in October.
But not all Pixel phones got the update. The Pixel 5 series and previous models were left without it when they launched over three years ago.
Before the Pixel 8 series, all Google mobiles had a lifespan of three years. The Pixel 5, for example, stopped getting updates last year because it launched in 2020.

Pixel 8 and Pixel 9 will be supported for seven years
When the Pixel 8 was released, Google came with a happy message – namely that it and all future models will receive a full seven years of support for updates.
This week, Google made another positive decision about the lifespan of its Pixel phones.

On his homepage has Google changed the conditions for certain models, something that among others Android Authority have reported on.
This applies to the Pixel 7 and Pixel 6 series, which have now received an extended lifespan – from three years to five years.
Previously, Android 15 would be the last update for the Pixel 6 series, but now the model will also receive Android 16 and 17. The Pixel 7 will receive Android 16, 17 and 18.
