Google will save you money this Christmas! Its search engine and Chrome browser are equipped with new tools that will help you find the best online promotions during your shopping!
HAS As the holidays approach, doing your Christmas shopping can quickly become a real headache. Indeed, to manage their budget correctly – especially in times of inflation – many consumers scour the Internet in search of the best deals. Although many browser extensions and other tools, such as Honey from PayPal, exist, you still need to think about using them! This is why, as December approaches, Google announces in a blog post new features for its search engine and Chrome browser to allow its users to save money on their online purchases. As a result, Google Search has a dedicated deals page, while Chrome welcomes options to proactively search for discount codes and provide pricing information. Please note, as is customary with the Mountain View firm, some of these functions will rely on our personal data and our browsing history.
Shop deals: looking for the best promotions
First of all, Google has a new interface that appears in the search engine – including on a browser other than Chrome – by typing “shop deals” – “good deals” in French. The page then displays offers on several products, arranged in categories such as clothing, electronics, toys and beauty, as well as the most popular stores, such as big box stores, so-called DTC brands, retailers luxury multi-brands, designer brands and local brands. The goal is to find products for sale across the entire Internet in one place. If we see something that interests us, simply click on the product or visit the merchant’s website to find out more.
So that you can buy a product at the best price, Chrome can now proactively search for promotions. Also, when we open a new tab, the browser displays the products that we have recently viewed on commercial sites in the “Resume navigation” location and tells us if they are currently the subject of a discount on the web. A way to prevent us from buying at a high price on a site when a competitor offers a better offer. You can also click on the new “Discount tag” button in the Chrome address bar to display the discount codes available on the site. No need to go through a third-party extension for this!
Similarly, Google is adding a price analysis feature to the search engine on the desktop version of Chrome. When this information is available on a merchant’s website, a “Purchase Information” label appears in Chrome’s address bar. Simply click on it and a graph of the price history over the last 90 days along with the usual price range for the product appears in a side menu. A good way to avoid being fooled by false promotions!
Finally, Google makes it easier to set up price drop alerts on the search engine and Chrome. So, when we look at a product in Search on our smartphone, we can now press the bell icon next to the product name to receive notifications by email and on our phone if the price of this product is decreasing among retailers. We can also add products to our favorites in a new shopping list folder in Chrome and receive updates on price tracking. This should help us approach Christmas more peacefully!
