Google updates its Results on you function to help you

Google updates its “Results on you” function to help you delete information about you that appear in its search engine. What guarantee your right to be forgotten!

You have surely happened to type your name and first name in Google’s search bar to see what the Internet knows about you. And, sometimes you can have unpleasant surprises, whether they are not flattering photos, personal information supposed to be confidential or wrong pages. In short, these search results do not enchant you, far from it.

Google has long allowed certain pages to derely thanks to the “Results on you” tool, launched in 2022. Good news: the tool has just been redesigned, as reported The Verge. It is now easier to use and some of the most useful functions are now better integrated into search results. Enough to assert your “right to be forgotten”!

Right to be forgotten: How to make a Google result disappear?

The “Results on you” tool allows you to proactively monitor the sensitive information that appears in the search results. For this, go to the hub At this addresswhich allows you to see all the dereferencing requests addressed to the search engine. Click on the “start” button, after which Google will ask you to enter the personal information you want to see disappear: your full name (including young girl names or nicknames), your postal address, your telephone number and your email address. The Mountain View firm will then send you a notification when your information will surface in the search results. You can then request their quick deletion if necessary.

Please note that the “results on you” tool is currently only available for users in France, the United States, the United Kingdom, Ireland, Australia, Canada, South Africa, Brazil, Mexico, Spain, Sweden, Thailand, India and Indonesia-but it will be extended to other countries in the future.

Google adds a novelty to its tool. Indeed, it is now possible to pin the problem sites directly from the search engine. To do this, just click on the three -point menu next to Google search results, then select the “Delete this result” option. Three options are then available to you:

  • “My personal information is indicated, which I don’t want”, which makes it possible to dereference the page;
  • “I have a legal request for deletion”for pages with protected, illegal or shocking content;
  • “He is obsolete and I want to ask for an update”when personal information has been updated, corrected or deleted from a website, but the search results have not reflected these modifications.

Thereafter, the request for deletion or reindexation will be saved in your Google dashboard. Please note that the company will only unlock the site, the content will always exist on the web page in question. It will simply be more difficult to fall on it. But it’s already good!
