YouTube Vanced will bow out. This application for Android, which allows access to YouTube without advertising and enjoy all the features of the premium version of the service, such as playing in the background, screen off, will disappear permanently. The end of this very popular application on Android was officially announced by its creators on Twitter as well as on Telegram.

“Vanced shuts down. In the next few days, the download links will be removed. The Discord server, Telegram channel and subreddits will remain in place for the time being. We know that’s not what you want to hear, but it’s what we need to do. We would like to thank you for all the support you have given us during all these years” indicates the publisher of the application on its Telegram channel

The publisher of YouTube Vanced adds two clarifications to its message: the first is that all current versions of the application already installed on Android devices will continue to work. The second, less funny, indicates that the end of YouTube Vanced is due to legal reasons. And this is not very surprising. For several years, the application has been widely used on Android to overcome the limits imposed on the free version of YouTube. With YouTube Vanced, users can experience the streaming video platform enjoying all the benefits of the Premium version for free.

It is also rather surprising that Google did not react earlier to the shortfall represented by the massive use of Vanced. Ironically, the creators of Vanced (who are obviously not lacking in humor, unless they were forced to do so by Google) invite their users to turn to an always functional alternative: s’ subscribe YouTube Premium.

While YouTube Vanced’s demise may cause some cringe, the cat-and-mouse game between Google and third-party player developers isn’t over.

Indeed, Vanced being an open source application, there is a good chance that alternative applications using the code of the application will flourish on the web in the coming weeks, as is very often the case when a service as popular disappears constrained and forced.

As of this writing, YouTube Vanced is still available for download and can still be installed.
