Switching from an iPhone to an Android smartphone should now be smooth. Google just very quietly released Switch to Android on the App Store. This new application allows, as its name suggests, to easily transfer the data stored on an iPhone to a new Android smartphone.
Google has not communicated officially for the time being. The arrival of this application on the App Store, from Apple, was done in the most total discretion. By searching for it by name in the search engine of the App Store, it is indeed impossible to find it. Google has obviously chosen for the moment not to reference it, probably until the official announcement of its launch. However, it can be downloaded by clicking on this link.
To transfer the data, the application will ask you to scan with your iPhone the QR Code displayed on the Android smartphone during its first configuration. Switching to Android lets you transfer your contacts, calendar events, photos and videos wirelessly.
The app even offers an option to direct you to Apple’s dedicated data transfer site (privacy.apple.com) to allow you to request a copy of your data stored on iCloud, including your photos and videos, in order to automatically upload them to Google Photos.
Finally, Switch to Android guides you to turn off iMessage receiving on iOS so that you don’t miss any text messages on your new Android device.
