Google Photos continues to integrate AI for even more functions! Thanks to the Gemini language model, it will soon be possible to perform searches on command to find what you are looking for in seconds.
Google offers a whole bunch of functions in its Google Photos application which, thanks to AI, make it easy to carry out complex photo edits with simple and intuitive actions, such as repositioning the subject, removing an unsightly trash can or moving the sky from the gray to blue. In May, the Internet giant also made the famous “Magic Eraser” function and other AI-powered photo editing tools available to all users (see our article). And, in the midst of the AI race, he does not intend to stop there. It took advantage of its annual conference to announce further integration of its large Gemini language model into its services, including Google Photos. In a blog postthe company is giving more details on a new way to search your photos thanks to Gemini, which will arrive in the coming months.
Ask Photos: Find specific photos faster
Google Photos will therefore integrate the Ask Photos function (“Ask Photos” in French), which should help users search for a specific memory more easily. Because with 6 billion photos uploaded to the platform every day, our galleries are constantly growing, to the point that, to find a particular photo, we find ourselves scrolling through pages and pages. Of course, you can search from the application, but this is not always satisfactory, even with the right combination of keywords. With Ask Photos, it is possible to ask what you are looking for in a natural way. For example, by writing “Show me the best photo of every national park I’ve visited”, the AI will take care of searching for our memories in the gallery, without us having to scroll through all the pages. It will also be possible to ask Google Photos to create summaries of your last trip, so that the AI displays the best photos by captioning them.
To deliver the most appropriate answer, Gemini analyzes the keywords, places, people, dates and concepts in each photo, then develops the answer by studying the results, matching and reading, if necessary. , text may appear in the image. Regarding data confidentiality, Google ensures that “No one will read your conversations and personal data in Ask Photos, except in rare cases to combat abuse or harm. We do not train any generative AI products outside of Google Photos on this personal data, including other Gemini models and products”.
