The unlikely resolution • After the street scene – two arrested for a year-old murder
In this small village of Tajueco in northern Spain, a murder mystery may have received an unlikely solution after a crucial clue appeared on Google maps.
Images in the street view tool show a man bending into the trunk of a car to load a bulky object. The object is wrapped in a white shroud and has the shape of a body. The images may have been crucial for the Spanish police in the search for a 33-year-old Cuban man, who had been missing since the end of 2023.
Spanish police believe that the Cuban man was murdered by the man by the car and his ex-wife, something that must have already happened in connection with his disappearance. The images, from October this year, are supposed to show how the suspected killer moves the body.
In November of this year, the man and woman could be arrested, suspected of having murdered and dismembered the Cuban man. According to Spanish police, the images are one of several important clues that have emerged recently.
The Google street view car’s visit to the Spanish village was the first since 2009.
“A Lone Wolf”
The victim is said to have come to the village a year ago to visit the arrested woman. The motive is not completely clear, but the woman and the victim probably had a relationship with each other.
The suspect, who was previously married to the woman, is said to have been known in Tajueco as a quiet type who did not make much of a fuss.
– He was a loner who never talked about himself. He helped out at the bar and lately you got the feeling he was trying to blend in a little more, said Tajueco villagers who El País have talked to.
Still looking for body parts
Police began investigating the 33-year-old’s disappearance after his cousin reported him missing last November. The cousin became suspicious when he received messages on WhatsApp from the victim, who said he had met a woman and was leaving his hometown of Soria for good, leaving his phone behind.
The police do not know what happened between November 2023 and October this year. At the beginning of December, the decomposed torso of the victim was found buried in a cemetery, while the search for the rest of the body parts continues.
A resident of the neighboring village of Bayubas tells El País that he once saw the victim. He describes him as “very corpulent” and wonders “what do you do with a body like that?”
