Google Maps is testing a new feature to indicate building entrances on maps. Valuable information to avoid getting lost in large places, from businesses to museums and administrations.
Over time, Google Maps has become a valuable tool for navigating our daily lives, whether it is to know the route to get to a specific location, find a nice restaurant for lunch, or find out about opening hours. a store or check the level of attendance at a tourist site. In order to make its mapping service ever more pleasant and more essential for its users, Google is increasing the number of updates. Thus, during its last months, the platform adopted new colors for its maps and had the right to an overhaul of its interface, in particular in terms of route search, in order to bring a touch of modernity more than welcome and to further facilitate navigation. However, for some large buildings and attractions, you may have some difficulty finding the entrance, particularly if the structures are large and complex. Also, Google is testing a new function to indicate building entrances on the map. An interesting idea, but to be developed.
Google Maps entries: a function currently being tested
Building entrances appear as a white and green circular icon with the open door symbol and an arrow pointing towards it. For the moment, they appear for public places such as train stations, certain monuments, and even certain department stores. For these icons to be visible, the location must be selected and zoomed in greatly. Please note, it seems that the function is not always precise.
At the moment, this function is still in the testing phase and is only available to certain users, and for only a handful of buildings. Our colleagues atAndroid Police saw this option in Google Maps version 11.17.0101 on Android and found that it only worked for certain locations, such as hotels, doctor’s offices, supermarkets, hardware stores, cafes and restaurants in the cities of New York, Las Vegas and San Francisco. We were also able to test it on this same version of the application and were able to see the famous little icon for certain places in Paris. For the moment, the integration of input icons is very random, it seems that Google is still collecting the necessary information. The company has not yet communicated clearly on this subject.
This new feature is a continuation of what Google announced a few months ago. The Mountain View firm had in fact announced the arrival of a similar function for public transport, indicating the position of entrances and exits to metro stations, as well as the side of the street on which they are located. It’s not a refusal!
