When you want to leave the Apple universe and take the plunge into the Android world, many questions arise: how to recover contacts, photos, messages, etc. Most of the time, smartphone manufacturers provide tools themselves to perform this migration, such as Smart Switch from Samsung, Phone Clone from Honor and Huawei, Mi Mover from Xiaomi or Oppo Clone Phone from Oppo. Google has not previously offered any official app to perform this operation. An attitude as strange as it is regrettable when you know the success of its Pixel smartphones. It’s now done… or almost. The American giant has discreetly filed a free app called Switch to Android on the Apple App Store. As its name suggests, it allows you to switch from an iPhone to an Android smartphone, regardless of the brand of phone to which it is a question of switching. However, Google’s initiative is still in its infancy. Indeed, there is no need to look for the app (with its French or English name) in the iOS store. You won’t find it. It is not yet referenced there. Google currently offers to track a link which leads directly to the page dedicated to the app in the Apple App Store.

Then, it lacks an essential brick: the twin app on Android or, at least, a function allowing to make the switch during the very first configuration of the smartphone. Because if the iOS app works, the user quickly finds himself blocked when it comes to associating the iPhone with the Android mobile. You are asked to scan a QR code which is not accessible anywhere.

It is obviously also possible to enter information manually (in particular data concerning a Wifi network specially created for the occasion), but no menu on Android delivers them.

In short, we will have to wait to enjoy it. The conference Google I/O scheduled for May 11 and 12 could be an opportunity for Google to deliver its complete migration solution. However, we already know that to work, the app relies on the American giant’s online services such as Google Drive and Google Photos. It also provides advice so that the migration goes as smoothly as possible between the two worlds.

Note that Apple has been offering a similar app for a long time to obviously perform the operation in reverse, switching from Android to iOS simply called Migrate to iOS.
