Google is evolving task management in Calendar. No more need to use the Tasks app to manage events and to-do lists: everything is now done directly in the calendar!
Like most users with a smartphone running Android, you probably use Google Calendar, which is preinstalled by default on your device. This service from the Internet giant has continued to evolve since its release fourteen years ago, to now offer simple and complete calendar management adopted by millions of Internet users. A few taps of your finger are enough to create personalized calendars containing professional appointments, family events to attend, birthday dates not to be missed, etc. Better yet, you can easily share them with all your contacts.
Last month, Google tested the integration of new functions intended to strengthen task management directly within this application, a bit like what Google Tasks already offers (see our article). From now on, the service allows you to consult, organize and check off your to-do lists directly from the main interface, without having to go through Google Tasks. Excellent news that the company shares with us in his press release.
Google Calendar: better integrated task management
Currently, Google Calendar does display tasks created via the Tasks app, but the functions are limited. To modify a subtask or perform more complex actions, users are systematically redirected to the Tasks application. Now, thanks to this update, it is possible to view and manage all their tasks, including those that are not associated with a date, directly from the application.
In addition, a new icon dedicated to tasks appears at the top right of the application. Pressing on it takes you to the Google Tasks interface, where it is possible to add, modify and mark tasks as completed directly in the calendar. No need to constantly switch from one application to another!
Managing tasks in Google Calendar: towards the end of Google Tasks?
With this new feature, Calendar continues to assert itself as a truly essential tool for organizing your daily life. However, this makes Google Tasks much less essential, since all the main task management functions are integrated into Google Calendar. What to announce the merger of the two applications? That would be a shame because, after years of wandering, Google Tasks is finally becoming a task creation and management tool worthy of the name. Not very powerful but effective, it benefits from excellent integration within the Google ecosystem. It could well subsequently receive other innovations from the Mountain View firm.
This update is rolling out to personal, Workspace, and Workspace Individual Google account users. It remains exclusive to Android devices for the moment, and we do not know when it will arrive on iOS
