Google EU Court confirms maxi fine imposed by the EU

(Finance) – The General Court of the European Union confirmed the fine imposed from Brussels to Alphabetthe parent company of Googlefor abuse of a dominant position.

There fineinitially amounted to 4.3 billion euros, the highest ever inflicted by the European antitrust, it was reduced by the Court to € 4.1 billion.

There story dates back to 2018 when the direction for competition led by Margrete Vestager had detected one misconduct by Google against Android phone manufacturers and mobile network operators.

In particular, the big American, thanks to its position, had imposed contractual conditions halter, forcing manufacturers of phones that use the Android operating system to pre-install a variety of apps like Google Search and Google Chrome in exchange for access to the Google Play app store. The violation therefore takes advantage of Android’s dominance in the European market, where it still has a market share of around 70% today.
