Google Contacts is entitled to several changes in its interface. Subtle modifications, but which provide clarity and efficiency. You will be able to personalize your contacts more easily!
Google is actively improving its messaging and contacts services, stocking up on new functions. Thus, Google Messages will soon make it possible to react more quickly and easily to received messages, will offer camera effects to beautify your photos and is even preparing to integrate the Gemini chatbot to write messages and help you adjust the tone of your messages. discussions (see our article). The company is taking the opportunity to make some small additions to Contacts, its application available by default on most Android devices, and, above all, to clean up its interface. But this is not the only novelty, far from it!
Google Contacts: sections for connected applications
The first addition is a new section called “Connected Applications” on your individual contacts page. So if they use other instant messengers like WhatsApp or Telegram to contact you, you’ll notice that now their phone number appears in the contact details page with the app icon next to it. Previously, several lines of numbers were displayed on the contact details page when the contact is synced with WhatsApp and Telegram. With the new interface, these numbers are located in a separate “Connected Application” box, which can be pulled down to display the numbers for two or more applications. This way, the contact card will not be cluttered with phone numbers.
Spotted on TheSpAndroid in version 4.26 of the application, this new interface has been deployed to all users, without the need to update via the Play Store – the deployment is done on the server side.
Google Contacts: Customize contact ringtones
But this is not the only novelty. Until now, the “Contacts” tab of the application displayed a navigation menu composed of different buttons at the top of the interface, under the search bar (Telephone contacts, Email contacts, Companies). These are now hidden. To make them appear, you must now press the button in the shape of an inverted pyramid which is on the right.
Note in passing that the “hamburger” icon in the search bar has been replaced by a magnifying glass, for greater clarity. Finally, at the level of the email address, a small arrow appears to display a menu which allows you to select “All contacts”, those only saved on the Google account, or “Personalize view” depending on the labels created. Moreover, it is possible to create one in no time by pressing the icon which appears at the top right, next to the inverted pyramid. Again, everyone is already benefiting from this update.
Latest new feature: while it was already possible to personalize the ringtone associated with a contact, the process proved tedious to say the least. Like the report TheSpAndroid, Google has decided to simplify all of this. Also, a “Contact ringtones” section appears in the latest stable version of Google Contacts, in the “Repair and manage” section accessible from the “Fix and manage” tab, on the right in the bar at the bottom of the screen. By tapping on it, you can then add a unique ringtone to your contacts to make them easier to identify. In short, the interface gains in clarity and practicality!
