One of the services developed by Google is closing its doors. You must ensure that you transfer your data quickly before you lose it.
Google services do not last forever. The American company continues to test new experiences for its users and launches new products and services every year, but also regularly cleans up, at the risk of stopping old ones a little prematurely. There is even a site, Killed By Google, which references all the services abandoned by the brand for years. Google Stadia, Google Reader and even Google Hangouts are part of a list that continues to grow.
Recently, another highly acclaimed application has entered the Google graveyard. The listening service “Google Podcasts” has been no longer functional since June 23 in France. The service had already been closed to American users in April 2024.
Launched in 2018, Google Podcasts has long been presented as the rival best able to compete with Apple Podcast. Unfortunately, the brand’s ambition did not have the expected success and its market shares never managed to reach those of Spotify or Apple Music. The brand then very quickly returned to its other service, “YouTube Music”, to continue offering its audio content.
This choice to close the application should allow the American company to bring together the podcast offering on a single service and above all to avoid duplication on Google Podcasts and YouTube Music. She therefore strongly advises Google Podcast subscribers to transfer their data to YouTube Music. Be careful though, you only have until June 29, 2024 to make this transition!
To transfer data from Google Podcasts to YouTube Music, you need to follow several steps:
- Open the app Google Podcasts and select the menu “Export subscriptions” which is at the top of the screen.
- The submenu “Export to Youtube Music” is displayed, simply click on “Export”.
- After that, you should go directly to the application YouTube Music and press “To transfer”.
- Once the transfer is complete, a confirmation message appears on the screen. You can then consult your subscriptions by clicking on the menu “Access the library”.
There are still other alternatives to Google Podcasts and YouTube Music, even if most of them are paid and contain a lot of advertising. For Apple system users, the application Apple Podcasts is undoubtedly the most complete. On the other hand, for Android users, it is more complicated, but we advise you AntennaPod. The open-source application provides access to millions of free and paid podcasts.
