Google allows you to temporarily disable third-party cookies using a new key in Chrome Canary 117 for desktop.
Google Chrome has proven itself as the most popular browser among the platforms. Microsoft goes to great lengths to prevent its installation as it comes with the Edge browser on Windows. However, Google’s desktop version has been flooded with many changes lately, most of them focusing on making the user experience more personalized.
Google goes a step further with more granular controls that allow you to temporarily disable third-party cookies using a new key in Chrome Canary 117 for desktop.
Google Chrome makes its move on third-party cookies
In addition to explicitly turning certain features on and off, Google Chrome also lets you temporarily turn them on or off, such as a recently added switch that temporarily disables all active Chrome extensions. Trusted Chrome feature researcher and Android Police reader @Leopeva64 found a new under development feature on Twitter that lets you temporarily disable third-party cookie blocking in Chrome Canary.
New feature can also fix broken websites
Some websites require a few essential cookies to work as intended, and temporarily enabling third-party cookies can fix website-breaking issues. Other than that, a switch that only temporarily disables these browsing activity trackers can be of great benefit to people who forget to restart blocking after a while.
We hope this new cookie setting makes its way into the regular build of Chrome 117 soon. Cookies are notorious for tracking unhealthy amounts of activity and are considered undesirable for some, even if they are necessary to be functional. And since they won’t be getting rid of this image quickly anytime soon, it would be nice to see Chrome developers let users temporarily define how long cookies stay active, but maybe we’re just taking an experimental step towards it.
