Google Chrome 107: Everything is new in the latest version

Google Chrome is probably the most common browser used by most of us online. New versions come out every four weeks, and so, shortly after Google introduced Chrome 106, we’re looking at the next incremental update in the form of Chrome 107. Everything in the latest version is here.

Chrome 107: Presentations in video conferences get better on desktop

Most of our meetings these days take place via video conferencing platforms, so Google is trying to make these meetings as convenient and simple as possible by providing developers with the appropriate tools. For one, video conferencing tools can now offer a single button to select a tab you want to share with your team and switch directly to it without any extra clicks from you. Video calling platforms can now simplify the list of possible screens and tabs you might want to share by allowing frequently used tabs or windows to appear higher in the list. The browser also offers a warning that video calling tools can use to issue a warning when you accidentally share the tab you are video conferencing, creating the notorious hall of mirrors effect.

Chrome 107: HEVC hardware decoding

While Google is pushing its own AV1 video codec hard, the company still seems interested in supporting other standards. The High Efficiency Video Coding (HEVC) format, often referred to as H.265, is one of them and has become one of the best options available. Google Chrome 107 adds hardware decoding support for HEVC which should lead to better performance. This feature is available on all platforms that offer hardware decoding, such as Android 5 and higher, macOS 11 and higher, and select devices on ChromeOS and Windows.

Chrome 107: The foundation for simpler login workflows

Google is on a mission to get rid of passwords as we know them. Just like we have the keys to our homes, he would prefer that we trust reliable devices or vehicles. However, such changes take a lot of time and can be frustrating when you have to actively switch between two login types depending on which website you prefer. Chrome 107 aims to solve this problem by allowing you to sign in using both methods in a single interface and prompting you to sign in with your password appearing first.
