Google Announced Inactive Gmail Accounts Are Deleted

This decision is due to the increased vulnerability of old accounts to cyber threats. Google’s internal data shows that inactive accounts are more likely to use two-factor authentication than active accounts. Additionally, external services connected to inactive Gmail accounts also face potential dangers. In response to these security concerns and to protect user data Google has chosen to eliminate inactive accounts that have been inactive for two years.

It is important to note that deleting inactive accounts will not happen instantly. Instead, Google Will phase out accounts in small groups starting December 2023 and will offer users the opportunity to reactivate their accounts if they wish to continue using them.

After deletion, all associated data, including emails, Drive files, documents, meetings, and other files, will be gone permanently. This action cannot be undone and users will not be able to recover their data after the account is deleted.
