Goodfellows imposter confronted by Chatham homeowner

A man posing as a member of the Goodfellows broke into a William Street home in Chatham Wednesday morning but was confronted by the homeowner.

Chatham-Kent police say the man told the homeowner that he was collecting for the Goodfellows and then left.
The imposter is described as in his 50s or 60s, with short gray or white hair.

Police say he was wearing a black and red jacket, with a red apron wrapped around his waist.

Members of the Goodfellows organization wear full-length red aprons with the Goodfellows logo visible, police said. Further, the Goodfellows are equipped with flyers.

Police said residents need to be aware of imposters, of those who claim to be a member of the Goodfellows or any other organization.

If you suspect someone is fraudulently collecting on behalf of a charitable organization, police ask that you call the non-emergency number at 519-352-1234.
