After thirteen years of good and loyal service, Xiaomi’s in-house software overlay, MIUI, is preparing to bow out. Its replacement, called HyperOS, should take over from next year on smartphones, tablets, watches, bracelets, televisions and all connected connected objects from the Chinese manufacturer, including cars, its new domain of activity. It’s very simple, Xiaomi intends to equip its entire ecosystem with it! The idea is to offer a unified interface for those who navigate between several brand devices, while facilitating their interoperability. For the moment, HyperOS, which has been officially presented on December 7is only available in China, where the Xiaomi 14, the first device to benefit from it, has already been released, but the new overlay should soon arrive internationally – we do not yet know the European release date of the smartphone , which should drop in February or March 2024. However, the Chinese giant has shared on its X account (ex-Twitter) the first products which will be updated from the first quarter of 2024.

Xiaomi HyperOS: an update in early 2024

In addition to the Xiaomi 14, here is the list of devices that will receive HyperOS during the first four months of 2024, without having more precise dates:

• Xiaomi 13 Ultra
• Xiaomi 13T
• Xiaomi 13T Pro
• Xiaomi Redmi Note 12
• Xiaomi Redmi Note 12S
• Xiaomi Pad 6

The first updates concern, without much surprise, the latest smartphones – as well as a tablet – from the manufacturer. Note the absence of the Xiomi 11T Pro, hoping that it will be available later. On its official X account, Poco also announced that the POCO F5 will be the brand’s first smartphone to benefit from the new software overlay, pending a more complete list which will be shared “later”.

Based on Android 14, HyperOS should improve the performance of the device and optimize its energy consumption, particularly for the most demanding games. Improvements to multitasking mode are planned, with suggestions for windows to open in the form of bubbles, as well as changes to the control center buttons, in order to highlight the most used ones. The default applications also have the right to a visual overhaul, not to mention that the device will incorporate AI. Finally, HyperOS supports HyperConnect across all devices. The goal of the new software overlay is really to obtain a more organized and harmonized result between the different devices, whatever their size or format. It’s about offering a coherent ecosystem that allows for increased interoperability – a bit like what Apple offers.
