A member of the public who stopped to help a person in a vehicle by the side of the highway ended up being instrumental in reuniting a missing person with their family, OPP said.

The good Samaritan stopped to help someone in a vehicle broken down beside the westbound lanes of Highway 401 near Communication Road in Chatham Kent on Saturday, at approximately 5:45 pm, police added.

“Upon speaking to the driver, the individual determined the motorist needed additional assistance,” and contacted police.
It turns out the 82-year-old driver, from Waubaushene, north of Barrie on Georgian Bay, was reported missing by a family member at about 4:10 pm that same day.
The driver was assessed and taken to a local hospital as a precaution.
“The police want to thank the good Samaritan for their assistance,” police added. “As a direct result of their assistance and subsequent phone call, the missing individual was (identified), and the family notified of their loved one’s whereabouts.”
