Good news Road workers stuck in a car tunnel in

The road workers were stuck in a partially collapsed car tunnel for 17 days.

In India, all 41 construction workers stuck in a collapsed road tunnel have been rescued.

Rescue workers managed to drill a rescue route to the men and bring them to safety inside a steel pipe today.

The workers were stuck in an unfinished highway tunnel in the Indian Himalayan state for 17 days.

Foreign accident investigators and mine rescue professionals were invited to the rescue operation.

Earth, concrete and construction waste were removed from the top and mouth of the collapsed, under-construction tunnel in order to save people.

The rescue operations had to be interrupted repeatedly because the drill bits broke from working with crushed stone and metal parts. During the rescue work, two new drills had to be brought to the site by helicopters in order to make a human connection to the tunnel and to rescue the workers.

A shrine of the local Boukhnag Hindu god was even built at the mouth of the tunnel to give faith in the success of the rescue efforts.

The conditions in the tunnel were described as harsh

During the first days of the rescue operation, oxygen, dry food, water and essential equipment such as flashlights and medicine could be delivered to the road workers through the gaps in the stone pile covering the tunnel mouth.

On Tuesday, the workers got warm food for the first time in days, when a new connection was made to the tunnel with the help of a wide pipe.

Relatives of those trapped talked to the road workers using walkie-talkies. The workers described the conditions in the dark tunnel as harsh.

Mining accidents are common in Uttarakhand, as the region is prone to landslides.
