Good news for Samsung Galaxy owners, certain models will benefit from a nice improvement in their camera thanks to a simple update of the Camera Assistant application. And for free!
Samsung’s Galaxy smartphones are already very renowned for their photographic qualities, and these will improve further with the new Camera Assistant update. This free application, reserved for the Korean manufacturer’s phones, offers a range of ergonomic options and advanced functions for photography and video, which go further than the tools offered by the camera application installed by default on phones. Galaxy phones.
There is, for example, an automatic lens change function depending on the lighting and the distance from the subject, digital processing to soften the contours, or even options to define the behavior of the shutter when taking photos or videos.
Camera Assistant 2.0: refined ergonomics and new functions
Version 2.0.00.0 of Camera Assistant, which was just released on November 23, firstly brings some refinements to the user interface. Some options have been renamed, such as “Optical Quality Crop Zoom” to “2x Crop Zoom Shortcut” (“2x crop zoom shortcut” in its original version). Others have been moved, such as the “Adaptive Pixel” option which now takes place in a new submenu entitled “High resolution settings”, or even completely removed from Camera Assistant, like the setting “Capture Speed”, which is now integrated directly into the phone’s default photo app.
In addition to this reorganization of the interface, the update of the application brings two new functions which are directly aimed at improving the quality of photos and videos. The first, awkwardly titled “High-end digital zoom” in French (for“Upscale digital zoom”), allows you to increase the definition of a photo taken with the digital zoom, in order to make it match the one selected by the user on their camera. The second, and this time aptly named “Distortion Correction”, offers to automatically correct the stretching and deformation effects which may appear, particularly at the edges of the image, due to the curvature of the camera lens, or use of the wide angle module.
Camera Assistant 2.0: a version reserved for premium Galaxy
These new functions and this refresh of Camera Assistant are welcome, especially since the application is completely free and it will be a shame not to take advantage of it. Unfortunately, this version 2.0.00.0 only seems to be reserved for the highest-end Samsung Galaxy models which have a version of One UI equal to or greater than 5.1. According to the application update note, compatible smartphones are the Galaxy S23, S23FE, S22, S21, S20, Note 20, Fold5, Flip5, Fold4, Flip4, Fold3, Flip3, Fold2 and Flip equipped with a version of One UI 5.1 or higher, and the Galaxy A54 model with One UI 6.0.
