Good news for more than 6 million households: very popular CAF aid is being upgraded at the beginning of October. And if you don’t yet receive them, you may still be entitled to them.
After the summer break, going back to school is often synonymous with unavoidable expenses. Between purchases of school supplies, income tax balances and property taxes for homeowners, the arrival of fall puts a strain on bank accounts, especially after several years of galloping inflation which have seriously eroded the purchasing power of the French.
but this year, a welcome boost will nevertheless help more than 6 million households to face this period, with the revaluation of aid concerning the first item of expenditure of the French: housing. Indeed, since 2019, the three existing types of housing assistance, namely Personalized Housing Assistance (APL), Family Housing Allowance (ALF) and Social Housing Allowance (ALS), have been revised annually on October 1st.
This revaluation is based on the evolution of the Rent Reference Index (IRL) observed during the second quarter of the current year. And as the site reports DemarchesAdministratives.frthe change in IRL for the second quarter of 2024, published by INSEE last July, stood at 3.26%. Thus, the APL, ALF and ALS all increase by this rate from Tuesday 1er october.
If you are already a beneficiary of one of these aids, their amount will be automatically increased, without any additional action on your part. Furthermore, you may be eligible for one of these schemes without knowing it, because the allocation criteria are multiple and a little complex. Fortunately, you can find out in just a few minutes if you are eligible for housing assistance, by using the official online simulator of the State.
Please note, if you are eligible for one of these aids, payment is not automatic. You will need to make a specific request to this effect, either to the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) or to the Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA), depending on the social system on which you depend. And when we know that the average amount of the APL in 2022 was €201 per month for an ordinary rental, it would be a shame to miss out on such assistance!
