Good news for more than 6 million households: a very popular aid is going to see an increase in a few weeks. And if you are not receiving it yet, you may be entitled to it.
The return from vacation is more often synonymous with additional expenses than good financial news. Between purchases of school supplies, computer equipment or income tax balances, the wallet often looks gloomy when fall arrives. All the more so after several years of galloping inflation that have seriously nibbled away at purchasing power.
A welcome boost should nevertheless help more than 6 million households, with the revaluation of aid concerning the first item of expenditure for the French: housing. Indeed, since 2019, the three existing types of housing aid, namely the Personalized Housing Assistance (APL), the Family Housing Allowance (ALF) and the Social Housing Allowance (ALS), are revised annually on October 1st.
This revaluation is based on the evolution of the Rental Reference Index (IRL) observed during the second quarter of the current year. And as reported by the site DemarchesAdministratives.frthe evolution of the IRL of the 2th quarter 2024, published by INSEE last July, stood at 3.26%. Thus, both the APL and the ALF and ALS should increase by this same rate from 1er next October.
If you are already a beneficiary of one of these aids, their amount will be automatically revalued, without any additional steps on your part. In addition, you may be eligible for one of these systems without knowing it, because the allocation criteria are multiple and a little complex. Fortunately, you can find out in a few minutes if you are entitled to housing assistance, by using the official online simulator of the state.
Please note that if you are eligible for one of these aids, its payment is not automatic. You will need to make a specific request to this effect, either to the Family Allowance Fund (CAF) or to the Mutualité Sociale Agricole (MSA), depending on the social security scheme you are subject to. And when you know that the average amount of APL in 2022 was €201 per month for an ordinary rental, it would be a shame to miss out on such assistance!
